Effect of Nano-Additives on the Strength and Durability Characteristics of Marl

Low bearing capacity soils may pose serious construction concerns such as reduced and excessive hydro-associated volume changes. Proper soil remediation techniques must be planned implemented before commencing any on low soils. Environmentally friendly stabilizers are gradually replacing traditional with high carbon dioxide emissions lime cement. This study investigated the use of an alternative pozzolanic mix nano-additives (i.e., nano-silica nano-alumina) cement to reduce usage for achieving competent stabilization outcomes. A series unconfined compressive strength (UCS), direct shear, durability tests were conducted marl specimens cured 1, 7, 28 days stabilized (0.1~1.5%), 3% cement, combined nano-additives. The UCS shear increased up a threshold nano-additive content 1% which was further intensified curing time. Nano-additive treated cemented showed long under water, while decomposed early. microfabric inspection significant growth calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) products within micro fabric pore-spaces aggregated particles. results confirmed that can replace partially achieve multi-fold improvement in characteristics marl.
